Position
As a Physics Teacher you will have the extraordinary opportunity to work with approximately 530 exceptional, gifted young men, talented faculty, and committed staff. Located in New York City, Regis High School is a Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory school and the only Jesuit, full-scholarship high school in the country. The school was founded in 1914 through the extraordinary generosity of an anonymous woman and her family. Regis now relies on philanthropy of alumni, parents, and friends as its most significant source of financial support. Position Summary
Regis seeks a qualified candidate to cover a Leave of Absence for one year as a Physics Teacher beginning September 2025. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in physics, a passion for inspiring young men in a rigorous academic setting, and experience integrating technology into physics education. This is a full-time, 10 month position. Position comes with full benefits. Work hours may vary and will include some evenings and weekends for special school events. Salary is competitive for the New York City area and is commensurate with education and experience. The 2025-2026 school year for faculty members begins on September 2, 2025 and ends on June 12, 2025.
Job Responsibilities
Develop and implement engaging, inquiry-based lesson plans aligned with the science department’s curricular and pedagogical goals.
Design laboratory experiences that align with curricular outcomes.
Utilize innovative instructional strategies and assessments to foster critical thinking.
Assign and assess homework, projects, and exams in accordance with department policy.
Maintain an accurate and up-to-date gradebook, providing timely and constructive feedback.
Prepare report cards with thoughtful student evaluations.
Work closely with the Science Department Chair and level team to ensure consistency in curriculum delivery.
Participate in faculty and department meetings to contribute to the school’s academic vision.
Engage in ongoing professional development, particularly in inquiry-based learning, computational physics, and culturally responsive teaching.
Provide individualized support to students as needed.
Actively participate in the life of the school by moderating a club or activity.
Attend school events, assemblies, and occasional curricular field trips.
Supports and is willing to advance the Catholic and Jesuit mission of the school
Works in collaboration with the administration in observing the principles and ideals for which Regis stands.
Conforms with the policies of Regis High School and is subject at all times to the general control and supervision of the Principal.
And any other assigned duties.
Qualifications & Skills
Excellent laboratory skills.
Experience teaching high school or higher education.
Excellent organization and communication skills.
Familiarity with and understanding of practical uses of technology for instruction.
Experience teaching science electives and overseeing scientific research are a plus.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Science Education in Physics, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. Evidence of continuing professional education through conferences, seminars, or professional associations is preferred.
Status
This is a full time, 10-month position covering a Leave of Absence.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary base is $73,093+, commensurate with education and experience on the faulty scale. Most benefits go into effect immediately. Participation in the 403 (b) begins after one year of employment.
Other Expectations
A willingness to work at times outside the normal school day and school year, including school events on the weekend.
The school expects one to conduct oneself at all times in a manner which shall not bring reproach upon oneself or the school.
